Stopped in on a Friday to play a couple games , place is old and run down , no big deal . Guy was persistant that I must pay 5 bucks to stay or join the club , had to leave and get 5 bucks . overall ok , but kind of would have thought just to visit would be free ?!? felt kind of harassed!

The St. Petersburg chess club boasts one of the best all-around chess club in all of Florida. For starters, the club offers a very friendly atmosphere of all sorts of talented players who often enjoy helping beginners get better at playing the game. While on the topic, the club offers classes from beginner to intermediate level playing skills. They hold rated tournaments several times a month. There have been several players who started at the club and who went on to become formidable high rated players. If you have an interest in the game, I will highly recommend to pay them a visit.
