Coach Ted is very much passionate about teaching chess. Kids like him a lot. Kids are well mentored by Ted. He guides kids and help them in solving puzzles. Personal classed kids learn a lot . Though charges are bit high, but it worth. Half an hour personal class adds more values than group classes. If your kids are interested, you can send them here. Weekends there are competitions, which helps kids to prepare well.

We met coach Ted Castro for the first time at one of our son’s chess tournaments while he was in the 5th grade. We were impressed with Coach Ted’s approach and asked him to begin coaching our son privately, up to 4 hours per week. Happily, our son’s rating jumped significantly in just a few months. He started winning more tournaments in multiple settings from smaller ones to national levels. In 7th grade our son was selected to participate in the USAT National Championship tournament. He was the youngest player on a high-profile team of GM Enrico Sevillano, IM Ricardo de Guzman and, FM Ronald Cusi. He was able to hold his own and help his team win the championship. He was featured on the cover of Chess Life magazine along with his team for this national championship. At NorCal House of Chess, our son continued intense coaching by Coach Ted, Coach Ron and Coach Ricardo. By the end of middle school he became a high-rated confident chess player and earned many more winnings. Coach Ted isn’t only his chess coach, but he is also a mentor and has guided him on many levels through the years. Coach Ted encouraged our son to continue his charity work and start his nonprofit organization to help underprivileged students. When our son started holding chess tournaments to raise funds for his nonprofit, Coach Ted was always there for him, at every single one of these tournaments throughout his high school years. He helped him find a venue, sent email blasts to his students to attend his upcoming tournaments, was always physically present, and taught him how to run these tournaments of young chess players efficiently. When it was time for college admissions, we couldn’t think of anyone else but Coach Ted and Seth (Coach Ted’s son) to write a letter of recommendation for our son. Coach Ted also wrote him a letter of recommendation for the National Honors Society. Our son went to NorCal House of Chess for chess coaching but he received so much more than just chess lessons, he received a life mentor for success. He now is a freshman at Cornell University studying Computer Science with a Premed focus. He joined the Cornell Chess Club and participates in simul and other activities. My husband and I will always be grateful to Coach Ted and NorCal House of Chess for our son’s mental and intellectual growth! We highly recommend NorCal House of Chess to anyone who wants to see their child excel and be a competitive chess player.
