My 15 year old son takes chess class here and also plays tournaments here. He absolutely loves it! His instructors are very kind and knowledgeable. He often has an expert review his tournament matches afterwards to learn more tips and strategies. The assignments are very motivating for him. Each time he completes his homework of 100 online puzzles he gets a new little token. They do a great job at awarding achievements. There is a lot of detail involved in recording tournament scores and keeping track of enrollment, etc. it’s very impressive how easy it is to register and look up the leaderboard. Every time I’ve had a question, the staff is very prompt in responding to me. Sarah especially has answered the most of my questions. Highly recommend Charlotte Chess Center!

Wow, upon proof reading this for the 1000th time before I post it, I feel so ashamed this has been my experience, this is how I feel and that I'm ACTUALLY putting this online but this is the THIRD time this has happened here and I'm just completely over it. First I'll say this is a nice retreat and the staff here have been awesome. Peter and Grant seem like great guys who are passionate about growing and teaching the game. I love chess. It is a fantastic and fascinating game of mistakes, ideas and problem solving which led me to trying to find others with what I thought was a similar interest. However, "Trolling" seems to be a thing that's frequent and acceptable here. And it's something I hadn't really seen until I started playing here. Unfortunately, I'm seeing it what seems like every time I'm playing here and ONLY here. For those unaware, "Trolling" is a known and deliberate form of disrespect. I have no issue with losing, but these people seem to enjoy provoking you with absolutely unnecessary moves in a completely lost position as a form of taunting. I do not enjoy spending 3 hrs of my time to come play with total strangers, support the game, the chess community and my local chess center on my only evening off, from a job that no one else in the building can even physically do, just to be taunted by its other members, completely unprovoked. The fact ANYONE enjoys or engages in this behavior is sad (only a true loser with nothing going on in his life would do this) , but the fact it's allowed and not even frowned upon, to me, is even worse. This is an absolute deliberate form of disrespect and poor sportsmanship, which I attempted to address, only to be shrugged off. Sadly, I guess, I was taught to win and lose with grace and considering I am respectful and courteous to all, at all times, regardless of what I'm doing, it's hard for me to understand this type of attitude and behavior coming from a random loser nobody on a random tuesday night at a free chess game that means absolutely nothing to anyone anywhere. I guess I just have big issues with respect or the lack there of, so, I'll just stay away from these people, as I'd hate to hurt someone over what would appear to be something so stupid as losing a board game, but in reality, would be more so me responding to unnecessary provocation in a manner unexpected by a loser not used to being held accountable for disrespectful behavior. Couple constant poor sportsmanship issues with winning your bracket in a previous PAID tournament, and NOT getting paid your prize money (it wasn't enough to care).....I guess this just isn't for me

I've been coming to the Charlotte Chess Center for almost 2 years. As an avid chess player, joining the CCC has been the best experience of my entire chess career! Whether you're an advanced or beginner, kid or adult chess player, CCC has everything to advance your skills. They have weekly, monthly and major rated tournaments to keep you constantly active in the chess world. They have classes for all levels of kids and the best coaching for adults who want professional level instruction. Even with all that said, one of my favorite events is the weekly lecture. This lecture is taught by the founder of CCC, Peter Giannatos. He is a FIDE Master and Premier Expert in all aspects of the game chess. In this lecture Peter presents a weekly Grandmaster game in which he breaks it down with such analytical genius that I have been able to incorporate many of the concepts into my own game. As a result, Peter's weekly lectures have improved my rating by over 150 points. These weekly lectures are so good that I would pay for them. But he does them for FREE!!!!!!! So stop by CCC and come in and get to know Peter and the staff. They are wonderful and will guide you through every aspect of participating and getting involved with the Charlotte Chess Center.
