Beach volleyball is typically played throughout the summer, in contrast to snow volleyball, which is typically played during the winter. Beach volleyball players typically wear bikinis when competing in beach volleyball.
Snow volleyball players are not required to wear bikinis since doing so would significantly increase their risk of hypothermia. The players in snow volleyball often wear thermal underwear over their standard volleyball attire, which is typically made up of synthetic t-shirts and shorts with commercial logos printed on them.
This helps keep players warm, which is especially important when the temperature drops below freezing, and it also promotes volleyball to the general public.

Snow volleyball is a form of team sport developed from beach volleyball and played in the snow. Volleyball is a sport that is now played throughout the year, from the summer to the winter, and snow volleyball illustrates how popular, intense, and widespread the sport has become.
Snow volleyball is played in warmer clothing than beach volleyball and follows rules comparable to those that govern that sport. Each team consists of two players. In order to improve their traction in the snow, players also wear cleats designed for soccer.
In contrast to its counterpart played in the summer, Snow volleyball is governed by a different set of rules and regulations. Because of all the activity, the snow may get more packed down and sticky, and the ball may grow wetter, increasing the likelihood that it may move around in the greater winds that may be present in the mountains.
Because of the cold and the greater altitude, the body has to work harder, which makes it more difficult to move around. Additionally, wearing additional layers of clothing makes it even more difficult.
History
Volleyball has been played on snow for many years, especially in nations like Russia, Austria, and Switzerland. This variety of the game is known as “snow volleyball.” In the late 1990s, Snow Volleyball tournaments were organized clandestinely in Austria and Switzerland. Martin Kaswurm, a local promoter, came up with the concept again in 2008.
The inaugural Snow Volleyball Tour was established in 2009 as the sport gained popularity in Wagrain, Austria. The Austrian Volleyball Association designated it as an official sport in 2011. The Tour began in Austria, but by 2013, it had extended to include visits to other European nations.
The European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) recognized the sport in October 2015, and the first CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour was held in 2016. Austria hosted the first CEV European Snow Volleyball Championships in March 2018.
Since then, the CEV has hosted an annual Snow Volleyball European Tour, with competitions in diverse nations like Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Georgia, Russia, Slovenia, and Turkey. In the winter of 2018, 17 National Federations also hosted national championships that served as qualifiers for the first-ever European Championships.
How Snow Volleyball Works
Snow volleyball is a variation of beach volleyball that may be played with three players, typically when it snows outside. Every match is played to the best of three sets, each set having a maximum of 15 points, and each side is allowed one reserve player and two substitutions per set. A team’s three touches do not count toward their total if they touch the ball after it has been blocked.
